didn't come to me naturally.
Then, as I was talking with my granddaughter about life choices she will be facing in the coming years, it hit me. I should be giving the same advice to myself. Don't try to be something you're not, be true to yourself. Do the things that you are truly interested in, and the rest will fall into place.
As a result, I am trying to be more comfortable with the fact that I enjoy documenting things, but that doesn't mean I don't have an artistic eye. I see things in a different way.
Last year, I looked for seaweed letters every time I walked the beach. Created by Mother Nature, and captured by me with my camera, these letters were temporary gifts that would be washed away with the next tide. I took these documentary photos and created a complete alphabet.
And if other people look at the same scene and don't see my vision, that's okay.
We are all different, with our own interests and talents. And that's something to be celebrated.

I've had a lot of fun creating words and phrases, and turning documentary photography into something creative.
